There's a specific, almost physical relief in closing a set. The last figure in the line, the last stamp in the passport page, the last save file at 100%. It doesn't matter if anyone else would call the object valuable. What matters is that the shape of ‘complete’ now exists where it didn't before.

This gets called obsessive by people who've never felt it, but it's closer to a craving for resolution—the same instinct that can't leave a bracket unclosed or a sentence unfinished. An incomplete set isn't just missing pieces. It's an open question, sitting there, unanswered, every time you look at it.

The completing itself is often more satisfying than the completed thing. Once the set closes, some collectors feel almost nothing—the tension that was doing the work has simply resolved, and they're already scanning the horizon for the next open loop.
